Yoga instructor Betsy Shilling tells us her mantra, her secret talent, and the perks of being a yoga instructor (hint: going to work barefoot? Yes!).
1. Favorite health food you couldn’t live without:
Homemade green smoothies.
2. Favorite yoga pose and why:
Supine Spinal Twist: It has so many benefits and is so simple to do. It stretches your outer hips, low back, side body, chest, neck, and more! It also compresses the organs which aids with digestion, opens up the lungs for deeper breathing, and often you'll hear a nice pop or two in your back as you release set-in tension.
3. Reason why you became an instructor:
To share what I love and believe in while doing what I do best. I also didn't want to wear shoes.
4. Proudest moment:
When I earned my first black belt at 14.
5. It’s 5pm on a Friday: where are you?
Not teaching! Anything but teaching! Friday is my sacred day for self, home, and community care.
6. Who are your heroes?
We all have the potential to be great. My heroes are those who are devoted to manifesting their best, brightest, and most authentic selves and sharing their goodness with the world.
7. What’s on your bucket list?
Learn to sail then travel the world with my cats (and husband) on board.
8. Last book you read:
‘The Diamond in Your Pocket: Discovering Your True Radiance’ by Gangaji
9. Your mantra?
Lokah Samastah Sukino Bhavantu: May all beings be happy, joyful and free and may my thoughts, actions and words contribute in some way to that happiness and freedom for all.
10. Your secret talent?
I can make an incredible meal appear out of scraps and leftovers.
