Do I need to be in shape in order to take Krav Maga or other classes at KMS?

No!  Our instructors will push you hard in class, but members can go at their own pace, and instructors will provide modifications to exercises so that everyone can participate at their own fitness level.  Our classes can be modified for all fitness levels.  This means that a new member and a veteran member can take the same class and both will be challenged by the workout and techniques.  You do not need to get in shape before coming to KMS; just show up, and we'll get you to where you want to be.

How do I progress from Krav Maga Level 1 to Level 2 and further?

KMS holds Level Testing twice per year, in the Spring and Fall.  In order to be eligible to test into Level 2, a student must have completed a minimum of 70 Krav Maga Level 1 classes.  However, doing the bare minimum is seldom a recipe for success.  Students who successfully pass the Level 1 test have usually completed well over 100 Level 1 classes as well as many Bag, Striking, Fit, Kettlebell, Fight, and other classes to further develop their conditioning and technique.  The approximate times for passing into higher levels are listed below.  Please note that members progress through the curriculum at vastly varying speeds.

  • Level 1 Test (for entry into Level 2) – 6-9 months
  • Level 2 Test (for entry into Level 3) – 9-12 months
  • Level 3 Test (for entry into Level 4) – >12 months
  • Level 4 Test (for entry into Level 5) – >12 months

What is your policy for putting a membership temporarily on hold?

12-month memberships can be placed on hold two times during the 12-month membership period.  There is no fee for putting a membership on hold.  Holds can be a minimum of 14 days up to a maximum of 30 days in duration (two times only during an annual membership).  In order to put your membership on hold, please email us at kms@kmseattle.com

What is your membership cancellation policy?

For our 12-month memberships (KMS Elite and KMS Lite), there are two cancellation scenarios (please reference your membership agreement for complete details):

  • Relocation: If you move ≥25 miles away from KMS, you can cancel your membership by providing proof of your new address.  There is a $100+tax cancellation fee.
  • Permanent Disability: If you become injured or sick to the point where you are physically unable to train in any classes at KMS for the remainder of your membership term, you can cancel your membership by providing a doctor’s note.  There is no fee to cancel under the permanent disability clause.

As long as you are physically able to train and living within 25 miles of KMS, there is no option to cancel a 12-month membership.  You have committed to training hard and achieving your goals!  Make the most of it and enjoy our awesome community!

For the KMS Standard month-to-month membership, you can cancel by providing 30 days’ notice (written).

Punch cards are non-refundable and non-transferable.  They expire after 12 months.

What are the differences between a membership and a punch card?

At KMS, our members are the beating heart of our community.  That is why we reward them with sweet member perks!  If you are on a monthly membership (KMS Elite, Standard, or Lite), you get access to the following perks:

  • Special seminars: We hold in-depth Krav Maga and other special seminars several times per year.  You do not want to miss out on these unique, in-depth, and super fun training opportunities!
  • Community events: In addition to our extremely popular annual Summer BBQ and winter Holiday Party, there are other community events throughout the year where you can hang out with your #KMSfamily outside the gym.  We guarantee you’ll love our community!
  • Level testing: If becoming an advanced level student is your goal, you’ll need to be on a membership to be eligible to test into Level 2 and above.
  • Private members-only Facebook group: A place to get to know your fellow Krav-ers and be the first to know what’s in the works at KMS.
  • Referral program: If your friend signs up for a 12-month membership, you and your friend both get a referral bonus.  You can also give away two free week trials per year to your friends who you think would love to join KMS.
  • Two freebie no-shows per month: Members can no-show for two classes per month with no fee.
  • Locker rentals: We have lockers for rent, but only so many.  If you need to store your gear at KMS, you’ll need a membership.

If you can only attend one class per week or fewer, a punch card is the best option for you.  Punch cards offer access to all our entry-level classes: Krav Maga Level 1, Women’s Only Krav Maga, Bag, Fit, Yoga, Open Gym, and Open Mat.  Punch cards do not have access to the member perks listed above.

I have trained in other martial arts. Can I participate in advanced classes right away?

All members who are new to Krav Maga should start out in our Level 1 classes, regardless of previous experience.  Krav Maga is a self-defense and fighting system; it is not a sport or a martial art.  As a result, the Krav Maga training system is inherently different from traditional and sport martial arts. Members who have previous martial arts experience may advance more quickly than other members. We guarantee that you will find our Level 1 classes challenging and fun!

I have trained in Krav Maga at another school. Can I participate in Krav Maga Level 2 or other advanced classes?

We ask that all members who are new to Krav Maga Seattle complete 15 Krav Maga Level 1 classes in order to give us the opportunity to evaluate your skills and make sure you are equipped to participate in our advanced classes.  After you complete 15 Level 1 classes, our instructor team will let you know if you are invited to train in any of our advanced classes.  We guarantee that you will find our Level 1 classes challenging and fun!

Do you offer private classes or semi-private classes?

Yes! We offer private and semi-private personal training sessions.  We recommend private and semi-private training for our students who have been training regularly in our group classes for a minimum of three months and who have specific techniques they want to improve.

If you have never done Krav Maga, we recommend jumping into our Level 1 group classes as you will learn all of the Level 1 techniques there, and group classes allow for more drills and multiple attacker training scenarios.  Plus, training with your fellow KMS members is always a lot of fun!

Private classes feature one-on-one training whereas semi-private classes allow you to bring up to five of your friends to create a personalized group experience.  Please refer to our Memberships & Fees page for details on pricing.
